Effects of Fenoprop with Calcium Acetate and Daminozide on Maturation and Shelf Life of ¢¥ Tsugaru ¢¥ Apples

Abstract
This experiment was conducted to study the effect of daminozide and fenoprop with or without calcium acetate on the maturity and shelf life of `Tsugaru¢¥ apple fruits. The results were summarized as follows.
1. Calcium acetate did not decrease the effect of fenoprop on the preharvest drop of `Tsugaru¢¥ apple fruits, but decreased fenoprop-induced stimulation of ethylene.
2. Maturity of apple was hastened 2 or 3 weeks by the treatment of fenoprop, but calcium acetate offsetted the effect of fenoprop-stimulated maturation.
3. Treatment of fenoprop alone increased total soluble solids content and decreased total acids, but calcium acetate offsetted these effects of fenoprop.
4. Effects of daminozide on ethylene evolution, respiration, total acids and soluble solids content, and firmness of `Tsugaru¢¥ apple were not significant.
5. Anthocyanin contents were increased by treatment of fenoprop with or without calcium acetate, but not increased by daminozide. This results suggested that calcium acetate could offset the effect of fenoprop on deterioration of shelf life and hastening of maturation in `Tsugaru¢¥ apple fruits.
